Back in March, several rumors indicated that Dell may be working on a thinner version of its XPS notebook. As it turns out, the rumors were true, and the new XPS 15 was recently spotted at the Romanian Aviation Museum at an event celebrating the four-year partnership between Dell and Romanian tech distributor Network One Distribution (Asesoft Distribution).
Dell took its new line of laptops to Romania for an event celebrating the partnership Dell and Asesoft Distribution signed back in 2008. During the event, Dell representatives talked about the newest products available on the local market, Dell's future plans at the local level, as well as a perspective on the evolution of ultrabook sales.
Dell's revamped XPS 15 comes equipped with Intel's new Ivy Bridge processors, and sports a 15.6-inch scratch-resistant Gorilla Glass display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. The XPS 15 includes options for either the 1GB Nvidia GeForce GT 630M or the 2GB GT 640M, supports up to 16GB of RAM, an HDD of up to 1TB and an SSD of up to 512GB. Ivy Bridge processors include the 2.5GHz i5-3210M or the 2.10GHz quad-core i7-3612QM configurations, Romanian media reported. When it comes to connectivity, the Dell XPS 15 features an USB 3.0 port, miniDisplay port, HDMI, card reader, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth 3.0.
There is no word on pricing yet, but the new and redesigned Dell XPS 15 is expected to launch sometime in the second quarter of 2012.
Dell also presented the XPS 13 at the Romanian Aviation Museum, as well as its 15-inch Inspiron 15R and 15R Special Edition (7520) and 17-inch 17R Special edition (7720), part of its new "Consumer"-dedicated new Inspiron series. Other offerings featured at the event included Dell's new Vostro models: 3350, 3450, 3550 and 3750.
