NBA Trade Rumors: Ricky Rubio Goes To The Cavs; Forms Deadly Combo With Kyrie Irving

Looks like its going to be an interesting 2016-2017 campaign for the Cavs if they could really get Minnesota guard Ricky Rubio together with Lebron James and Kyrie Irving.

Fans might remember, Cleveland Cavaliers guard Iman Shumpert, who was part of their championship run last year, was tagged with a DUI and possession of an illegal substance when he was pulled over for a lane violation in Atlanta last month.

The incident looks to be pushing the Cavs to consider the troubled guard for a place on the trading block. And the team from Ohio looks to be thinking big as reports suggest they are going after Rubio.

Ricky Rubio has been in trade talks for quite a while now. It was further bolstered by the fact that the Timberwolves chose another stellar playmaker in Kris Dunn for the fifth pick. He was also rumored to go to the Sacramento Kings before they eventually went with TY Lawson.

A lot of NBA fans might think that Ricky Rubio would be a poor choice for the Cavs since they already have someone by the name of Kyrie Irving. But the truth is, adding Rubio to the mix actually makes perfect sense. With their backup, Mo Williams contemplating on retiring from the league this year, the Cavs would actually have a depth problem when it comes to the point guard position. Adding Rubio would make a great backup to Kyrie Irving and could create headaches for opposing teams by playing point and letting Kyrie wreak havoc on offense by going to shooting guard.

Ricky Rubio does have some issues on the defensive side, but with a lot of great defensive players on the Cavs, that could easily be remedied.

A Ricky Rubio and Kyrie Irving combo just make the Cavs a much more formidable team. And that is saying much considering they won the championship last year. Let us hope they pull this one off.
