Buy Samsung Galaxy S3 Now or Wait for iPhone 5? Foxconn CEO Says Wait

Chief Executive Officer Terry Gou of Foxconn, the Apple device manufacturer, has recently made a very bold statement regarding the iPhone and its rivals, according to Apple Insider. The CEO urged consumers to ignore Samsung's newly-released Galaxy S3 smartphone and wait for Apple's next-generation iPhone instead, expected to be unveiled sometime in the fall.

Speaking at the company's annual stockholder meeting, Gou discussed a number of strategies that will enable the company to "beat" rival Samsung within the next three to five years, Focus Taiwan reported. Apple's next-generation iPhone was mentioned only in passing, as the CEO was discussing strategies. "The new model will put Samsung's Galaxy S III to shame," said the CEO, noting that Foxconn's ambition is to beat Samsung in virtually every electronics market it competes.

The next-generation iPhone, expected in late 2012, has reportedly undergone a significant redesign, with numerous rumors indicating it may feature a larger screen than its predecessors. Moreover, a recent report from WebProNews stated that Apple has approved a series of new patents, including drawings that fall in line with the recent speculation. One patent shows a basic iPhone design, but with several differences. The camera, for instance, seems to be placed above the ear speaker rather than next to it, while the docking port seems to be significantly narrower than the one found on earlier iPhone models. The difference in docking ports falls in line with various rumors that Apple is working on a 19-pin connector. Other current rumors, however, indicated the audio jack will be placed at the bottom, while the patent drawing features the jack in the same spot.

The size of the display also seems to have undergone a slight redesign, as it appears proportionally larger than all the previous generations, which sport a 3.5-inch display. Previous rumors pointed towards a 4-inch display for the next-generation iPhone. It is worth noting, however, that this application was originally reviewed in 2008, so chances are it is just an uncovered image of an earlier prototype that may or may not see the light of day.

Terry Gou's statement is, nonetheless, very bold, especially now as the Samsung Galaxy S3 finally hits U.S., driving all the hype to its maximum. Apple, meanwhile, keeps its lips tightly shut until the next-generation iPhone's official unveiling, so it is rather hard to choose one smartphone over the other at this point.
