John Hanke, Niantic Lab's CEO - responsible for today's number one mobile app hit, has talked in a recent interview about how the company would apply what they have learned from Pokemon Go and evolved it into revolutionary augmented reality games.
Reports have been springing all over the internet with regards to Pokemon Go's sudden decline on player pools and just currently, paying customers. Aside from the market reports, people just reportedly quit playing because of school duties; players would set aside the game to cater more on priorities such as studying. Another obvious reason on quitting is just the hype just faded away, when players feel that they are doing repetitive tasks - which Niantic is currently spicing up with frequent game feature updates.
With the reasons stated on user decline for Pokemon Go, it would be wise to think that the company behind it would look for other means of keeping up their momentum in terms of app development, one of them would be creating completely different games based on what Pokemon Go has taught them.
In the interview, Hanke said:
"That's always been our strategy to build up a platform underneath a game that can be used for other games, and frankly other experiences that may not exactly be games, but are still within that area of exercise, discovery, and social interaction. The Niantic platform is very much a part of our long-term vision and we have some projects that are in the early stages now that will be built on top of it so you can definitely expect to see that from us in the future. It's a positive step for everyone to bring games out into the real word and give people the motivation, the excuse, to get out, get some exercise, see new places, and hopefully have good healthy interactions with other human beings." - Niantic Labs CEO John Hank
So what game is next for Niantic?
As of this writing, we are all in a guessing game as Niantic has no official statement on what game would be next after Pokemon Go. Most probably it would have to be an augmented reality app following Ingress and Pokemon Go's footsteps. Fans have been trying to guess what would come up next; the famous Harry Potter Go was one of them. Even a Destiny version was thought of in the Pokemon Go community. Concepts such as these are likely to happen especially when games like Jade Empire is coming to the IOS. To add, Bioware devs reportedly also have mentioned that mobile games could triumph over console gaming in the near future.
