Microsoft No Longer Pursuing Fitness Bands: Renames Health App To Microsoft Band

Microsoft has decided to put an end to its fitness band line and just switch its focus on producing the Surface series devices. Looks like the Microsoft Band 2 is the last of its kind, but it will still live on as an app.

The latest Microsoft Band that was released was integrated with Cortana support. Cortana is Microsoft's version of Apple's Siri and Amazon's Alexa and she will serve as your personal digital assistant while you wear your Microsoft Band 2. But even though Microsoft won't be pursuing the fitness band department and we can no longer expect a band 3, the Microsoft Band will still live and continue to serve you as a health app.

Recently, an update was released and every supported platform that has Microsoft Health will be able to take advantage of the new update, Windows Central reports. One of the most noticeable changes that came with the app is its new name. From being known as Microsoft Health, now the app is dubbed as Microsoft Band. Other users might find it odd and confusing, but Microsoft has a good reason for the name change and their decision to discontinue the fitness bands.

In a report published on MS Poweruser, Android users will be the first to receive the news of the rebranding as the app still has not been renamed on the iOS. Microsoft's decision to cancel their plans on continuing the fitness band line is considered good news for third-party fitness bands.

Even though updates have changed and added more useful features on the new Microsoft Band app, the original Microsoft Band and the Band 2 will still be able to connect with the app and function well. The good news is, if you don't have the Microsoft Band, you can still take advantage of the apps' features as it allows you to connect third party fitness bands as well.

If you think the Microsoft Band app will help you improve your health and lifestyle, you can install it on Windows Mobile/Phone, Windows PC, Apple, and iOS. For those who have already installed the app, the firmware update is going to come with the app update.
