Manga and anime fans in recent months have mourned the end of popular series "Naruto" and "Bleach," and although "One Piece" and "Toriko" are still ongoing, many fear that there will be a great famine of manga/anime when the two eventually reach their end.
Fortunately, there's another series that has generated a cult-like following, and rightly so: "Attack on Titan." The manga tells the story of a pack of carnivorous mindless giants, called Titans, that mysteriously appeared on earth and started eating mankind for food.
Humanity bands together and trains a special group of soldiers whose duty is to take down the mindless giants and prevent the extinction of humanity.
"Attack on Titan" has satiated the hunger of fans for great stories with epic action sequences. That's why when it was turned into anime for the first time, it was met with unprecedented popularity. No wonder its second season is met with equal excitement and anticipation.
The much-awaited "Attack on Titan" season 2 will finally hit TV screens in April 2017, which is a sure treat for fans all over the world.
Season 1 had 25 episodes which aired from April to September 2013 in Japan.
Funimation and Crunchyroll video streamed and gave English subtitles to the anime for overseas fans. Later in 2014, Funimation released the entire first season on home video.
According to Crunchyroll, the manga to anime adaptation was such a great hit that as soon as season one ended, the anime's director Tetsurō Araki confirmed that a second season was already in the works and will launch in 2016.
However, fans who patiently waited got crushed in disappointment when the studio that produces the anime announced that the hit Japanese anime series will not return as scheduled this year.
The cancellation of "Attack on Titan" season 2 airing was met with universal disappointment and anger among fans both in Japan and overseas, proving the immense popularity of the anime.
It was Spanish manga news website "Mision Tokyo" that first found out that season 2 will not be airing this year. Fans were incredulous when the news went viral.
However, Mision Tokyo's credibility was not in question because back in 2012 the website was the first group outside of Japan to confirm the official release of "Attack on Titan" season 1. The Spanish anime website first heard of the delay from Selecta Visión which was the Spanish distributor of the anime.
Fans eventually accepted the inevitable and waited for further announcements when their beloved anime will get to reign terror once again.
And now, the long wait is over.
As reported by Anime News Network, the production team behind "Attack on Titan" has officially announced that the much-awaited second season of the anime will premiere in Japan by spring of 2017.
TV programs in Japan are released following the country's four seasons. A show that begins in spring commences in April. So fans can finally watch "Attack on Titan" season 2 in April 2017.
The Anime News Network also reported that the main voice actors of the first season will all return, led by Yuuki Kaji as Eren, Yui Ishikawa as Mikasa and Hiroshi Kamiya as Levi.
