There's been a lot of speculations and rumors surrounding the Nintendo NX. The gaming company has yet to make an official announcement, though. It certainly was not at the 2016 Tokyo Game Show. Its absence in the event left people to speculate again. This includes the question of NX's possible price.
Nintendo NX's $399 Price May Be Too Expensive
Wedbush Securities analyst Michael Pachter comments on NX's possible cost. According to Gaming Bolt, Pachter said that NX's price is a make or break for Nintendo. It will be more evident with tough competitions like PS4 Pro and Xbox One Scorpio.
He added that it needs to stand out. A Nintendo NX handheld with a docking station will not help. Nintendo's constant third-party support problem for consoles should be addressed too. That's been the issue since 1996's N64, according to The Verge.
The NX might not sell well unless it has a third party support. Pachter also mentioned another factor. He estimates NX to cost $399 if it's handheld. This may hurt Nintendo's sales, though. They have a better chance if it's a console priced at $199.
NX has been described to be a combination of console and handheld. So, the actual price might be somewhere in between.
Nintendo's Absence At Tokyo Game Show
The buzz for Nintendo's NX may die down. As such, some were expecting the company to announce their product at the Tokyo Game Show (TSG). The Verge said that it would have been a great opportunity for Nintendo. The world media is covering the 2016 TSG.
However, the company is not present in the said event. They don't usually attend the TSG. The only exception was on 2005. At that time, they had introduced their Wii controller. It actually turned out successfully.
The company's partners would have appreciated their games to be revealed. The variety of games that may come with NX is uncertain, though. That's only possible if NX's has third-party support. Of course, the unveiling of NX itself is still the main focus.
It seems too long for Nintendo to reveal NX. They will have lesser time to promote it with a March release. Hopefully, people are still in for the hype.
