"Man of Steel 2" looks like a go, and if rumors are true, then comic book fans will be treated to a familiar and popular villain in the Superman saga, Brainiac.
According to Henry Cavill's Manager Dany Garcia, "Man of Steel 2" is already lined up for the actor's busy schedule. According to Newsweek, Garcia said:
"Henry has a big appetite," Garcia says. "We've been in a five-month period of time where he's re-strategizing, acquiring property [for his production company Promethean], he's filming [Justice League] now, he's in development for the Superman standalone... he's beginning to expand that world. It's beautifully teed up. In a year from now or two years from now, he's going to be a force globally."
So with that out of the way, the next question fans really want to ask is, who will be the villain?
Fans might remember in the first movie that General Zod was trying to get his hands on a database that contained all the DNA of the Kryptonian race (which is hidden inside Superman). Well, it looks like things will pick up after that as plot spoilers state that Brainiac needs it. He will then use Kryptonian knowledge to create another villain named Bizarro to get the codex.
Comic fans may know Bizarro as Frankenstein's monster-looking version of Superman. In the original comics, he was created by Superman nemesis Lex Luthor as a perfect clone of the man of steel.
And oh yeah, director Zack Snyder is also contemplating putting in Supergirl in "Man of Steel 2."
Looks like Marvel Studios is going to have some serious competition in the superhero spamming trend.
Fans can only hope that the Superman franchise can get this villain done right as compared to this year's Batman vs. Superman's adaptation of Lex Luthor, which was met with lukewarm reception. Stay tuned for more news and set photos about "Man of Steel 2" when it starts production.
