"Man of Steel 2" is currently on production and Henry Cavill will be reprising his role as the ultimate superhero, the actor's agent announced recently.
"We've been in a five-month period of time where [Henry Cavill is] re-strategizing, acquiring property [for his production company Promethean], he's filming [Justice League] now, he's in development for the Superman standalone... he's beginning to expand that world. It's beautifully teed up. In a year from now, or two years from now, he's going to be a force globally," Dany Garcia said to Newsweek.
Warner Bros. has already 10 films on schedule. Two of which, still unnamed, will be rereleased on 2018 and 2019. Fans are theorizing one of them will be Batman's solo movie, and based on today's news, "Man of Steel" may be the other. It was earlier reported that "Man of Steel 2" is a top priority of Warner Bros.
But who might possibly join Superman In Man of Steel 2? Movie Pilot posted a list of possible DC characters.
- Braniac- a corrupted artificial intelligence, Braniac is one of Superman's greatest enemies.
- Martian Manhunter- Superman's ally. He could function on a vacuum.
- Darkseid- The last villain in "Justice League" 2. Based in previous scenarios Superman wasn't able to defeat him on their first match-up
- Supergirl- Superman's cousin, Kara. It would be great to introduce her in "Man of Steel" 2, she would give Kal-El another reason for fighting.
- Metallo- cyborg with Kryptonite heart created by ARGUS
- Cyborg Superman- an astronaut who modified his body to a cyborg after his wife's death.
Henry Cavill first played the superhero in "Man of Steel" film in 2013 where Clark Kent, under the disguise of a freelance reporter in The Daily Planet, embarked on a mission to solve the mystery regarding his birth and save Earth.
The movie grossed a worldwide total of $668 million, which makes it the highest-grossing Superman film. It is also the second-highest grossing remake of all time, just a little behind "The Amazing Spiderman." However, the film got mixed reviews from critics. It has an average rating of 6.2/10 in Rotten Tomatoes based on 300 reviews, and was described as an "exhilarating action and spectacle" but "can't fully overcome its detours into generic blockbuster territory." Metacritic reviewers gave the film a general score of 55 out of 100. Some critics even said that Cavill's performance as "Superman" was stiff and he lacks charisma.
The "Man of Steel" sequel was put on hold when DC announced "Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice" in San Diego Comic-Con way back 2013. However, reports on a Superman solo movie started surfacing few weeks ago.
