Just when everybody thought Google will have no further roles to play in iOS’ ecosystem, the search engine and Android giant announced that Google Drive will be coming to iOS and Chrome OS, and it's currently available now in the App Store.
At its day 2 keynote, Google demonstrated Google Drive on the iPad, showing off the real-time association and image recognition abilities. The company had already launched its Drive app for PC, Mac, and Android back in April, and, according to a Verge report, said at the time that the iOS version was "98 percent done."
Google Drive lets you create, share, collaborate and keep all your stuff in one place. You can upload all your files from your computer - even the big ones - and you can access them anywhere, including your iPhone, iPad or iPad Touch running iOS 5 or later. You get started with 5 GB free.
The new Google Drive will offer the following features –
- Quickly and easily access and view your documents, photos and videos anywhere
- Make files available offline so you can view them even when you don’t have Internet connection
- Easily share files with collaborators on the go
- Sync files across your desktop and all your devices
- Open files from Drive with other apps installed on your device
- Star your most important files to easily find them later
Google Chrome, on the other hand, will be available to iPhone and iPad users running their devices on iOS 4.3 or later. Although it still hasn't debuted at the App Store, Google said that should happen later today. The app supports Chrome sync so that if you're using Chrome on your desktop computer too, you'll have all your bookmarks, searches, etc. with you on your iDevice.
