In today's tech-driven world, smartphones have become a must-have for any gadget-lover, and mobile browsing is increasingly more popular. Fenrir Inc., a global software company focusing on Internet tools, has released a new version of its Sleipnir Web browser on Thursday, June 28, aiming to "bridge the gap" between desktop and mobile browsing.
While mobile Internet access is already possible and widely available, Fenrir's latest browser version, Sleipnir 3, is designed to make mobile browsing as easy and comfortable as desktop browsing. To this end, Sleipnir 3 features a Smartphone App Linker that allows users to easily send files from their desktop to their mobile device, with just one simple click. The new version builds on the success of the previous iterations, and enhances the mouse and multi-touch gesture browsing features, while providing a simple, easy-to-use design.
The new Smartphone App Linker feature is designed to bring desktop and mobile browsing closer together. Using this app, users can search for directions, phone numbers, or other things on their desktop system, and easily push the map or contact info to their smartphone on-the-go. Mobile browsing has come a long way, but desktop browsing is still more convenient for many. What Sleipnir 3 aims to prove, however, is that users can combine and enjoy both functionalities.
"Internet access from mobile devices continues to increase. But most users also have a computer with a much larger screen that they rely on. It's not one or the other: it's both. We thought it made sense to easily connect the two," said Fenrir CEO Kazushi Makino. "Web browsers should still be innovating and adding new features. New hardware platforms demand this. Innovative users demand this. Sleipnir 3 is built specifically to rise to the challenge."
Main Features
In addition to the Smartphone App Linker, which allows users to easily push data from a desktop system to their smartphone, Sleipnir 3 sports several other notable features:
- Share or save data from your browser for later reading
- Click a phone number displayed on your desktop system and call it from your smartphone or add it to your phone's address book
- Open a Web site displayed on your desktop with your smartphone
- Write text on your desktop system and insert it into a messaging app on your smartphone
- Click an address displayed on your desktop and instantly open it with a map app on your smartphone
- Synchronize bookmarks
The Sleipnir 3 browser has a simple design and comes with support for Windows and Mac OS X. The Smartphone App Linker feature supports iOS and Android, but the iPhone version is still under App Store review.
According to Fenrir, Sleipnir has seen over 30 million downloads in the last 7 years. It may not have what it takes to replace your primary browser, but it seems like a good alternative for adding desktop functionality to your smartphone. The latest version of the browser, Sleipnir 3, is free and is already available for download.
