A great winning week for Apple!
The Cupertino tech giant has won another patent battle against its biggest rival Samsung and successfully bans Galaxy Nexus smartphone in the United States.
Two days after banning Samsung's Galaxy Tab 10.1 in the United States, U.S. District Court Judge Lucy Koh has granted a similar preliminary injunction banning sales of the Galaxy Nexus.
"Apple has made a clear showing that, in the absence of a preliminary injunction, it is likely to lose substantial market share in the smartphone market and to lose substantial downstream sales of future smartphone purchases and tag-along products," Judge Koh said in Friday's ruling.
The judge also noted that Samsung had infringed Apple's patented technology that covers "core voice and search functionality" and is used in "Siri" for searching multiple databases, For those who don't know, "Siri" is a voice-automated assistant program launched with iPhone 4S in last year October.
Koh's judgment will now prevent the Korean electronics giant from selling Galaxy Nexus phone or any other device that is "no more than colorably different" in the US, AllThingsD reported.
The Galaxy Nexus has been Google's flagship device that first appeared with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system late last year. Samsung, although never released the sales of its handsets, Apple claimed that the Galaxy Nexus is "the most credible competitor to the iPhone so far," and can affect the company's market share.
