Guerrilla Games is well known for its first person shooter game "Killzone."
The franchise hailed from the critically acclaimed PS2 in 2004, but despite the game's excellent features, it was hounded by comparison to then massively popular game "Halo."
A sequel, "Killzone 2," was released for the PS3 five years later, and was well received both by fans and critics. "Killzone Shadow Fall" debuted alongside the PS4 in November 2013, but had a tepid response.
Now in its most forthcoming game in the PS4, Guerilla Games is going towards an entirely new direction. The company is seemingly abandoning its years of expertise and knowledge built up in "Killzone" in favor of their new title, the open-world role-playing game, "Horizon: Zero Dawn."
"Horizon: Zero Dawn" occurs in the world of Horizon, where Aloy, the game's protagonist, is a hunter and a rebel.
The game is set 1,000 years after the world succumbed to robot-dinosaurs known as Machines.
In this post-apocalyptic world, humans like Aloy must once again learn the ways of the wild to survive.
The players control Aloy as an archer and melee fighter. She also has mystical powers that slow down time, giving her the chance to hit targets in critical areas.
In the "Killzone" franchise, players had to survive and escape a harsh world. In "Horizon: Zero Dawn," players will explore and enter new environments.
Guerilla Games studio manager Hermen Hulst said: "It's really exciting. It is fantastic when you've worked on a franchise for more than a decade--actually, in my case, it's been almost 15 years--to do something that's so radically different and at the same time kind of stands on the shoulders of what we made before."
Hulst further added that "Killzone" had a "gritty" beauty, while "Horizon: Zero Dawn" shows a more "majestic" beauty.
The game was first shown during Sony's E3 press conference this year where audiences were given a glimpse of the game's fantastic environments and the protagonist's abilities. "Horizon: Zero Dawn" hits consoles in February 2017.
It's been said that "Horizon: Zero Dawn" will be one of the first games that will use the 4K capabilities of the Playstation Pro, giving fans a great visual spectacle when they play the game in a large screen.
