‘Empire’ Season 3 Premiere: Who Fell From The Rooftop? Rhonda or Anika?

Fans have waited for months before finally getting the answer from the major cliffhanger the last season has ended with.

Season 2 of "Empire" ended with a pregnant Anika Calhoun (Grace Gealey) and Rhonda Lyon (Kaitlin Doubleday) fighting at the edge of a high-rise building when Andre Lyon (Trai Byers) saw them and was last heard screaming "No." The scene was cut, and the viewers were left to wonder who among the two ladies fell.

Fast forward to the first 5 minutes of "Empire" Season 3 episode 1. Hakeem (Bryshere Gray) drives away after he was left by Laura (Jamila Velasquez) while Lucious (Terence Howard) and Jamal (Jussie Smollett) tries to follow him. While the two were outside, Rhonda came crashing down into the car in front of Lucious and Jamal. Rest in peace Rhonda.

Poor Andre, after losing his child, he now saw his wife fall to her death. He grabs the pregnant Anika by the neck and starts choking her. But then, her water breaks and Andre carried her out of the building. "Empire" season 3 is definitely off to a good and exciting start.

In an interview with show runner Ilene Chaiken, she teased, "We could still see her. Rhonda is quite likely not out of our 'Empire' world just yet. I don't want to say how long Andre will have this unusual relationship with his deceased wife, but there's a good chance that we will see more of her."

True enough, Rhonda did return in the same episode. Andre having suffered mental illness for the past two seasons has started hallucinating about her now deceased wife. Could the show be setting up a darker Andre storyline for this season? And how will her death affect Anika?

Fans will have to wait for the next episode of "Empire" Season 3 to air.
