The users of Galaxy S2 and international Galaxy S3 now can rejoice as XDA developers have already developed a ROM for Jelly Bean update.
After launching the official ROMS for the Galaxy Nexus Jelly Bean OTA update at I/O, an unofficial Android 4.1, Jelly Bean ROM was leaked and put online by folks at RootzWiki. Now XDA developers have also worked hard to port the new version of Android OS to smartphones like Galaxy S3 and S2. Meanwhile, the unofficial ROM is also available for the HTC One X.
Jelly Bean is the fastest and smoothest version of Android yet, claims Google. With VSync and Triple Buffering, the new Android OS will enhance the touch responsiveness.
Other impressive features of the new OS include offline voice typing, auto arranging of icons, and a predictive keyboard. Moreover, some tweaks have been made to the camera app, also notification has been revamped, a Siri-like feature called Google Now and Android Beam have also been introduced in the new operating system. The new OS also launches a faster user interface enabled by "Project Butter."
Meanwhile, Samsung has notified users that it will be offering Jelly Bean update for "eligible" devices. The Korean giant has released its statement to folks at PocketNow. "Samsung will soon announce which additional devices are eligible for the Jelly Bean update. As the world's largest smartphone manufacturer, Samsung, leads the Android community with best-in-class devices like Galaxy S III, and is creating new device categories with products like the Galaxy Note. Samsung has delivered the most Nexus-branded lead OS devices and we are pleased that Google will be bringing Samsung Galaxy Nexus and Nexus S customers the first experiences of Jelly Bean on a handheld device."
While the ROMs released by XDA are into alpha versions, they are stable enough to let you enjoy Jelly Bean on your Galaxy S3, S2 and One X phone.
Check out below to learn how to install custom ROM on your device:
Folks at the XDA warn you before you initiate the process. Your device can enter a bootloop, the downloaded software can cause a soft-brick, or potentially even a hard-brick. And, you can also end up breaking your device, although the chances for that are very low.
What are the few things you should do before starting:
1. XDA suggests you to create a full NANDroid backup before you flash the ROM.
2. You should also keep a backup of your /efs partition to an external location.
3. You should be running a 5.x version of ClockworkMod Recovery.
Instructions-
- First step is to wipe data/factory reset using CWM, clean cache, and then go into advanced, and clean the Dalvik cache too.
- Now flash the ROM (JellyBeanAlpha.zip)
- Repeat step 1 and clean entire data and cache
- Go into advanced and fix permissions.
- Now go back and flash the kernel (zIMAGE-JB.zip) for fixing the mobile data connection. Now flash CWM-SU-v0.89_fixSU.zip, you will get SuperUser working on the ROM.
- Now the final step - reboot your phone.
