While, at the recently concluded Google I/O 2012, the company showed off its new Jelly Bean Android OS, which comes in the form of an update to the Android Ice Cream Sandwich, as well as some of its few neat features and, of course, the Nexus 7 (the first device to feature it), the company did not mention anything about a new permission feature that will also arrive with the operating system.
Now the people over at AndroidGuys have pointed out the new feature on the Android developer’s page. The Android developers’ page mentions a new permission option called ‘read external storage.’
“Provides protected read access to external storage. In Android 4.1 by default all applications still have read access. This will be changed in a future release to require that applications explicitly request read access using this permission,” the page reads. “If your application already requests write access, it will automatically get read access as well. There is a new developer option to turn on read access restriction, for developers to test their applications against how Android will behave in the future.”
Although the permission may not be seen in version 4.1.0, it is likely to appear in version 4.1.1 and will aim at making your device more secure.
