Following the announcement of the live-action movie adaptation of "Gintama," Weekly Shonen Jump magazine announced on Monday that the hit franchise will get a new TV anime series. It also teases the climax of the manga's final arc.
With the said announcement, fans were quick to speculate that the upcoming "Gintama" anime season would be based on the manga's ending, giving the fans some closure. "Gintama" anime series began back in 2006 and continued until 2013 with several hiatuses in between. The first season was composed of 201 episodes then followed by 64 episodes in the next couple of years.
The last "Gintama" anime series aired back in April 2015 and ended in March. The series also inspired two anime films, including the "Gekijōban Gintama Kanketsu-hen: Yorozuya yo Eien Nare" which premiered in 2013 and the upcoming live-action film adaptation "Gintama" starring Shun Oguri. The film opens in Japan next year.
Meanwhile, the manga series began in 2004 with Hideaki Sorachi as creator. It continues to be ranked among the top-selling manga in Japan. Viz Media published the firt 23 volumes in English while Shueisha published its 65th volume in Japan.
For now, fans will have to wait for further details about the upcoming "Gintama" anime season.
