Apple iOS 10: To Upgrade Or Not To Upgrade? The Pros And Cons Of New iOS 10 Features

Just like every other operating system upgrade by Apple, the tech giant didn't scrimp when it came to adding new features for iOS 10. The new operating system which debuted on Sept. 12 has a slew of awesome features including interactive messaging, redesigned Apple Music, better widget support, and major Siri improvements.

With the latest improvements in almost all Apple apps, it seems that upgrading is the better choice. However, Apple users may want to proceed with caution. Here are the reasons why:

iOS 10 Upgrade May Lead To Bricking

Right after Apple announced the iOS 10 upgrade, users who were excited about the new features of the latest operating system ended up bricking their iPhones, as reported by Telegraph.

Apple addressed the issue by releasing iOS 10.0.1 and reminded users to back up their data and upgrade over iTunes. However, this doesn't eliminate the scary possibility of ending up with a bricked iPhone.

New System Upgrades Require More Storage Space

For anyone who saw the new stickers which include "Star Wars" and other awesome animations in iMessage, it's hard to resist the urge to upgrade. As IBT reported, the revolver emoji have been replaced with a lime green water gun. But, this does not discount the fact that the new message effects are great.

Then, there's the new "Memories" feature in the Photo app which is a treat to people who love to snap photos.

These upgrades are irresistible, for sure, but they are constantly eating up storage space. The threat of insufficient storage is very real for users who upgrade to iOS 10.

Slower Phone Response Time

When running an upgraded operating system meant for a modern hardware on an old device, it wouldn't be surprising if your gadget slows down. The iOS 10 upgrade may cause longer boot apps and slower app response time.

Requires More Swipes And Taps

While most Apple fans were expecting to do more with less, the new iOS defies that. With the latest system, you would have to do more swipes and taps to accomplish what needs to be done.

Reduce Motion Disables Message App Effects

For people who are not fond of the zoom and parallax effects on iPhone, turning on Reduce Motion option solves the problem. Although the iOS includes this option, it affects not just the home screen but also the Message up. When turned on, message effects such as full screen and bubbles are disabled.

Apple iOS 10 may have more redeeming qualities but there are vital considerations especially for users who are upgrading older devices such as the iPhone 5 and 5c.
