iMac Release Rumor: Apple to Release a Retina Display iMac in October?

After launching Retina display in its iPhones and iPad, Apple is now prepping a Retina iMac and the next generation iMac will release in October, claims a new report.

DigiTimes, the Taiwanese newspaper which is known for its spotty records of rumors, again citing the clichéd "upstream supply chain sources" reported that Apple is working on a revamped version of the popular all-in-one desktop. The report indicates that the desktops will enter production this month and will officially be launched "possibly around October." The most important information in the news is that the Cupertino tech giant is expanding the Retina display across all product lines and new iMac "will have a high chance" of featuring one.

Moreover, the report indicates that Apple is palling to "surpass its competitors in terms of screen resolution." But Retina displays are far more expensive than the "Full HD" displays that Windows PC makers are using in their PCs and hence you can expect a pricier iMac this time.

DigiTimes also reports that redesigned iMacs and Mac Pros are expected to come in 2013.

Meanwhile, The New York Times reported last month mentioning that Apple is indeed redesigning the Macs but the new revamped desktops will not hit shelves before next year.

In addition to that report, last week Instapaper creator Marco Arment, citing "multiple sources" reported that the new iMacs will not sport Retina displays.

About DigiTimes' prediction, Time columnist Harry McCracken recently said, "By my count, 16 of these 25 stories turned out to be mostly or completely off-base. Five are largely or entirely correct. And four involve predictions that might yet come true."

Which prediction do you think will come true? Let us know in the cooment section below.
