While much of the rumors on the web are being generated by the highly anticipated arrival of PlayStation 4, new information has revealed that our current generation PlayStation 3 is not really left behind.
As per the latest reports and some new documents uncovered recently, Sony is currently producing a slimmer PlayStation 3. The new model representing the CECH 4000 series could also be revealed at GamesCom. The news was only recently revealed by a Japanese site Pocketnews.
The documents were filed with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). This usually means that once it is cleared, the model will go in production.
This is something that has happened before as well, and it could be interesting to see whether this will be accompanied by a price drop. That’s because such a change in the body of the console usually means internal restructuring to increase efficiency and reduced size of components.
The new model looks much smaller and thinner compared to the current PS3. You can check out the images here. Note that the second and third images are the PS3 slim and PS3 fat respectively.
More information will soon follow.
