Virtual reality is the game industry's byword for 2016. This was highlighted when a slew of games and hardware were showcased at the recently concluded Tokyo Game Show 2016.
Both the PS4 Pro and Xbox Scorpio boast of Virtual Reality capability marking a continental shift in experiencing games from television to VR headsets.
New reports say that virtual reality will not just be for video games but also for watching live streamed games.
The forthcoming "Counter-Strike: Global Offensive Tournament ESL One" in New York has recently sealed a deal with "SLIVER.tv" and "WonderWorld VR" to live stream the tournament in full virtual reality, providing consumers with a 360 degrees experience of the games.
The partnership is considered groundbreaking as no other contemporary media company has ever tried live streaming games in virtual reality. This will be the world's first 360 virtual reality eSports livestream. Fans are excited to know what it feels to be literally in the game.
The company said subscribers can experience the livestream through VR-enabled hardware like the HTC Vive, Samsung Gear, or Oculus Rift headsets.
For consumers who are on a shoe string budget and do not have a VR headset yet, fret not for the service can still be viewed on the "SLIVER.tv IOS" or using Android's app in 360 video.
Stuart Ewen, the product manager at ESL, shared his enthusiasm for the VR livestreaming service, saying: "This new method of broadcasting is going to give viewers a taste of what it's like to be in the arena at an esports mega event, and give people a brand new perspective. We couldn't be more proud to take the next step into the future of broadcast media with this initiative."
ESL One New York runs from Oct. 1-2. More information about the service can be seen in the trailer below.
