Since Hollywood's super couple Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt's split became public, numerous rumors have surfaced on the reason behind the Brangelina divorce. Pitt has been under investigation for child abuse after allegedly assaulting his son during a plane incident. But the actor's name would soon be cleared as the footage from Minnesota's International Falls Airport shows that no physical altercation occurred, but only shouting.
Brangelina Divorce Announcement
On Tuesday, Sept. 20, the world was shocked upon the news that Jolie and Pitt decided to end their marriage, citing irreconcilable differences as grounds for divorce. Jolie released a statement through her manager that she is doing what she thinks is best for her children. According to Mirror, Robert Offer, Jolie's entertainment lawyer, also commented that Jolie was doing it for the best interest of the children, citing that the dissolution is for the "health of the family."
Right after the announcement, there were rumors that Pitt was cheating with his "Allied" co-star Marion Cotillard. Hollywood Life opined that there were different opinions on the matter and that the split was more likely due to Pitt's anger management issues and substance abuse.
Child Abuse Allegations
Amid the drama, news came out that the FBI is investigating the "World War Z" actor for allegedly lunging at his son, 15-year-old Maddox, when the child came to Jolie's defense during an argument on Sept. 14. Based on court documents, the divorce petition was submitted on Sept. 15 which makes it highly possible that the incident during the family's flight from Europe to LA was at the heart of the couple's separation. The divorce papers also reveal that Jolie filed for sole physical custody, limiting Pitt's involvement to visitation rights.
However, it is likely that the actor's name would be cleared of child abuse charges since there's footage at the Minnesota's International Falls Airport showing that Pitt had only been screaming at Maddox. There was no physical assault or anything of that nature that would qualify the incident as child abuse.
Meanwhile, Jolie retreated to a secret location after cutting Pitt of "brutally" from their six children. Media outlets also suggest that Pitt did not expect Jolie to file for a divorce although she had made threats in the past. Jolie only released the statement through her lawyer but has refused to comment on the impending divorce.
