Google's October event has been the talk of the town for the past few months. However, the only thing people know about the said event is that it will hold the introduction of the 2016 Google phones. Now, it looks like fans can expect more than just a new flagship phone release. According to recent hints, an Android-Chrome OS merge is likely to happen, and it will be announced at the same event.
Long-Running Speculations About Google's Android-Chrome Merger Plans
The said merger between Android and Chrome has been rumored for the past years. However, no decent clues and leaks have come out to give people an idea that this is more than just a rumor. Speculations just continued to arise from time to time saying that Google is planning to release a merger that will combine two of its operating systems.
Android Merges With Chrome For An OS Called Andromeda
People might have known the word 'Andromeda' as a galaxy or as a part of the Greek mythology. However, now, Google is likely to use the same name in combining their two operating systems, Tech Radar reported. Apparently, a tweet has almost confirmed the merger, and it came from Hiroshi Lockheimer, the Senior VP of Android, Google Play and Chrome.
"We announced the 1st version of Android 8 years ago today. I have a feeling 8 years from now we'll be talking about Oct 4, 2016," the Senior Android VP said.
Although no elaborate explanation was given by Lockheimer, the tweet is pretty much self-explanatory. It's either an entirely new operating system is set to replace Android's slot, or finally Google is announcing the long-rumored merger.
What Happens After Andromeda OS Gets Launched?
Within Google's camping ground, a lot of good things can happen when Andromeda becomes the next big OS. One of these is that Android apps would be made available to Chrome devices. IBTimes also said that the arrival of Andromeda OS this year shouldn't be a surprise, as Google already announced that Android apps are soon coming to Chrome OS. Referring to a report from a different website, the post also said that the merger is highly likely to do more changes to Chrome rather than altering Android.
If Andromeda OS is indeed coming this year, the competition between operating systems would be very interesting. Android is already a very popular OS, but its merger with Chrome means that Google can run a wider range of devices. This means that the hybrid system can now properly run a fully-functional laptop or any similar device. What it does to Windows and MacOS' sales, is anybody's question.
Google's October 4 Event
Google has already released a teaser last week confirming that the company is set to hold an event on the 4th of October. While the teaser did tease a smartphone announcement, Google should have more things up its sleeve. Aside from the new phones, the Google Pixel and Pixel XL, some fans also expect new products like upgraded Chromecasts. The company used to announce new Google Nexus phones, but now, it looks like the Pixel phones will the the 'man of the hour' at Google's upcoming event.
