Just a week back, Bloomberg reported citing, "people with knowledge of the matter," Amazon is prepping to launch its own smartphone range and is in touch with Foxconn to challenge the iPhone and Android-based phones. And, now Wall Street Journal has confirmed the same news stating that the world's biggest online retailer is already undergoing testing a smartphone with Asian component suppliers and that the smartphone could be in production "late this year or early next year."
WSJ, citing "Officials at some of Amazon's parts suppliers, who declined to be named," reported that the screen of the phone will be "between four and five inches."
While no more information about the phone features have been revealed as of now, it is almost confirmed that the phone will feature Android OS. Just like the customized version of Android OS on Kindle Fire, a similar modified version of Ice Cream Sandwich (or Jelly Bean maybe) can be expected to be seen in the new phone.
Meanwhile, an earlier report claimed that Amazon is trying to build wireless technology patent portfolio to keep its upcoming device free from the patent infringement allegations. The latest Amazon smartphone will unquestionably enjoy access to the retailer's library of books, video, and other content.
