Huge Android Tablet Boasts 21.5-inch Display – Would You Buy One?

A new Android tablet will hit the market soon, however the term "tablet" might be a bit of a stretch. The new gadget comes from Japanese company Kouziro, and it is a gigantic 21.5-inch full HD resolution Android tablet.

"A 21.5-inch Android tablet comes to market!" Kouziro advertised its new gadget. It may be not as portable as a "normal" tablet, but the huge screen would certainly make it excellent for streaming video and playing games. The massive size, however, does resemble a desktop computer rather than the portable tablet form factor consumers are familiar with.

The "Frontier" branded tablet officially dubbed the FT103 sports a 1,920 x 1,080 touch display, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of storage, Wi-Fi, webcam, HDMI, microUSB, and microSD ports. Also, the huge touch panel display tablet runs on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich on top of a Texas Instruments OMAP 4428 dual-core 1GHz processor. With such an enormous display, the FT103 is one of the biggest Android devices around, and it weighs in at a solid 11 pounds. The tablet, however, has no battery and must be plugged into a wall, so its considerable weight should not pose a serious issue. Except for its supersized screen, the features are pretty much like those one might find on a regular Android tablet.

The FT103 also comes equipped with an integrated kickstand and HDMI input, allowing for easy connection of an external PC or game console to the big screen. It can even be used as a second monitor, and allows users to play Android games in their native environment.

All-in-one PCs with large-screen integrated touch displays are fairly common in Japanese households. Even in the U.S., all-in-one PCs marketed by Hewlett-Packard, Dell, and Samsung have a growing presence at important retailers such as Best Buy. In fact, HP has just revealed four All-in-one PCs, including the ENVY 23.

Kouziro, however, is marketing its gadget as a tablet, designed for watching movies, browsing news sites, and playing games. The FT103 is expected to go on sale in Japan sometime this month for 34,800 yen, i.e. roughly $439.
