Samsung Galaxy Note Receives Android Ice Cream Sandwich Upgrade

AT&T's monstrous Galaxy Note device has finally received the much-awaited Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update. The latest OS update will include a unique "Premium Suite" feature, which has been designed specifically for Note by Samsung to take advantage of the stylus capabilities of the device.

Samsung's phablet was a major hit in the smartphone market so far, selling in excess of 7 million units till now. Its uniqueness in terms of combining size of a tablet (well, almost) and features of smartphone, gave the device an edge over its contemporaries. The Korean electronics giant packed in Android 2.3 along with a 1.5 GHz Scorpion dual-core processor, a 5.3-inch AMOLED display, 8 megapixels rear camera, 2 MP front camera for video calling, 16GB storage, 1 GB RAM, S Pen stylus for sketching and making notes and Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Li-Ion 2500 mAh and AT&T's 4G LTE connectivity.

Now, with the latest Ice Cream Sandwich update, Galaxy Note will not only boost the number of Android devices running on Ice Cream Sandwich but also, along with its sibling Galaxy S3, bring in good fortune for Samsung. Samsung has already released its Q2 estimated financial report and it shows a soaring sales report thanks to the company's Galaxy smartphone line. The Korean electronics giant has reached a record $5.9 billion operating profit. Samsung also provides estimation of $41.5 billion worth of sales during Q2 2012.

Meanwhile, rumors about the next generation Galaxy Note are going rife in the Internet. According to the latest report, Galaxy Note 2, featuring a bigger, yet thin and flexible, unbreakable plane display (UBP), is coming this October to give direct competition to Apple's next generation iPhone. The phone will also feature quad-core processor, 12 megapixel camera and will offer improved battery life.

Samsung, moreover, has announced to make Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich update available soon for the international version of Galaxy S2. Separately, AT&T has confirmed on Tuesday that Galaxy S2 Skyrocket users can also update their devices to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

While CNET in its review of Android 4.0 on the Note said that the upgrade is "subtle, but useful," according to folks at the PCMag, "The Android 4.0 upgrade is a nice perk, but it doesn't change the game here."

All Galaxy Note users will receive Ice Cream Sandwich over-the-air (OTA) update during the next few weeks.
