‘Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure’ Live-Action Adaptation Confirmed; Takashi Miike To Direct ‘Diamond Is Unbreakable’ Arc

After much speculation about a live-action film based on "Jojo's Bizarre Adventure," Warner Brothers Japan and Toho announced Wednesday, Sept. 28 that the film adaptation is truly in the works. The long-running shounen manga is the basis for this new feature to be directed by Takashi Miike, the creator of the horror flick "One Missed Call" and the live-action film for the manga "Terra Formars."

During the press conference at Tokyo's Ritz-Carlton Hotel, Miike revealed more details of his new project which is scheduled for a summer release in 2017. Kento Yamazaki, who is known for his portrayal of L in "Death Note," would take the role of the main protagonist, Josuke Higashikata. Other actors including Yuruke Iseya who played Arata Wataya in "Rurouni Kenshin," Ryunosuke Kamiki, Nana Komatsu, Masaki Okada, Mackenyu, and Takayuki Yamada would also be part of the film's cast.

The live-action adaptation is a new collaboration between Toho and Warner Bros. Japan. Yamazaki let it slip that Morioh town in the manga would be set in Spain. Director Miike also reportedly announced that the filming location would be in Barcelona.

"Diamond Is Unbreakable" Arc Recap

As confirmed by the director and the network, "Jojo's Bizarre Adventure" live-action adaptation will follow the story in the fourth installment "Diamond is Unbreakable." Originally released as volumes 29 to 47 in the manga, this follows Josuke back to the fictional town of Morioh where he needs to beat villains with supernatural abilities which known as Stand users.

The Joestar lineage's illegitimate heir needs to protect the magical bow and arrow and make sure that an evil organization will not possess the powerful items. With a serial killer on the loose and multiple revelations, the story would be full of action which would definitely follow the "Jojo-dachi" tradition.
