Apple iPhone – How to Make Chrome Your Default iOS Browser (Tutorial)

Chrome for iOS has just been released and the new browser has managed to gain enough recognition from users and enthusiasts in no time. The Chrome browser, comparatively, looks better than Apple’s default Safari browser and fans are looking for ways to make it their default browser.

This is now possible as you just need to jailbreak your device in order to make Chrome as your iDevice's default Web browser. What this will do is that it will remove Apple’s problematic handicap where you automatically jump to Safari when you click on a link in a mail or Web site.

Here are the steps to make Chrome your default browser –

Step 1: You need to make sure that your device is jailbroken before you begin. If not, make sure that you jailbreak the iDevice to continue.

Step 2: Once the device has been jailbroken, install Chrome via the App Store. Search for the Google Chrome web browser app, and install it on your device. This is just a typical iTunes installation so no problems with that.

Step 3: Next, launch Cydia. In this step, tap the Cydia icon to open up the “other” app store. This will refresh the listings, and then tap the “Search” button. Just type “Browser Changer” into the text box and hit the “Search” button.

Step 4: Now install the Browser Changer. Tap the entry for Browser Changer from the search results to open its full listing page. Next, tap the “Install” button, followed by the “Confirm” button on the next page. Once the app is downloaded and installed on your device, hit the “Respring” button to finish the installation.

Step 5: Here you will need to activate the Browser changer. You can launch the Settings app and scroll down to the “Browser Changer” entry. Tap it, and slide the “Enable Changer” switch to “On.”

Step 6: Finally, set Chrome as your default iOS browser. Just tap the “Selected Browser” button and tap the entry for Chrome. From now on, whenever you tap a link in any other app, Chrome will take over it instead of Safari.

And we are done here.
