‘Amanda Knox’: Netflix Documentary Did Not Convince Viewers That She Is Not Guilty Of Murder?

When Netflix released the documentary "Amanda Knox", many were hoping they will get a definitive closing chapter when it comes to the gripping case, but instead got what everyone already had been feeling all those years ago; uncertainty.

"Amanda Knox" is about the sensational case of an American woman studying in Italy, who was accused of murdering her roommate along with two male companions. After a frenzied media circus which scrutinized every part of the life of Amanda Knox, she was found guilty and sentenced to 26 years in prison before eventually having her sentenced overturned after four years spent.

The problem with the Netflix documentary was not how it was made, it was how it did not really give any definitive answers. Sure, Amanda Knox and her then boyfriend has already been exonerated of their crimes and should be deemed innocent, but as the documentary points out there are still many questions that feel uneasy including the following:

  • Amanda Knox has been caught displaying overly suspicious behavior during the investigation. At one point she was seen smiling at the media, shopping for lingerie, and even kissing her boyfriend while in the midst of a crime scene investigation.
  • Her ex-boyfriend's conflicting version of events.
  • Pointing fingers at other innocent people

Though this is not a blaring sign that Amanda and her boyfriend were guilty, it also did not help persuade viewers to see them in a favorable light. However, the documentary did highlight the ridiculous media frenzy that could have persuaded an entire courtroom to sentence an innocent woman to 26 years in prison.

It is also worth noting that the Italian police did some underhanded tactics to pressure Amanda into a confession and could have added to her already erratic behavior.

Netflix' "Amanda Knox" is a wonderful journey to the world's fascination with real crime and the subsequent witch hunt that follows it.
