Veteran actor Mel Gibson is in talks to co-star in a new action-adventure film, "Every Other Weekend," to be directed by French filmmaker Benjamin Rocher.
According to reports, the production team behind "Every Other Weekend" chose to star Gibson to play the role of a grandfather spy character. The movie will be produced by Clement Miserez and Jean-Charles Levy together with "The Conjuring" producer Peter Saran. Production starts later this year with France as the filming location.
Gibson's career had come to rest after his drunk driving offense back in 2006. The shine of his career was then immediately lost, together with other things he held dear like his family. Things even got worse for Gibson after his much talked about fight with his former girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva, who he allegedly discriminated from audio recording leaks back in 2010. He then had a few but still failed comeback offers, until Robert Downey Jr. came pleading to the public during an awards ceremony to let Gibson continue his movie contributions.
Until this year, Gibson has finally taken steps for a Hollywood comeback with his first directed movie "Hacksaw Ridge" since his 2006 movie "Apocalypto." The war drama stars Andrew Garfield and made its world premiere during the 73rd Venice Film Festival. The movie was then welcomed with a standing ovation as it was opened, a sign which signals the success of Gibson's comeback to the movie industry. The war drama movie by Lionsgate is scheduled to come to cinemas on Nov. 4.
Another comeback project for the actor is the action film "Every Other Weekend." The script is about a tri- generation family storyline, mainly revolving around a father who tries to convince his son that he is an experienced CIA spy, but in reality only works in the IT department. However, on a father-son trip bound to Paris, the duo find themselves in a life-threatening, full of action adventure, asking for their family secrets to surface.
The biggest surprise comes when they discover that the family's grandfather, which will be given life by Gibson, is a real spy. The adventure and action then begin as the father and son try to escape international threats with the help of the skillful grandfather.
