Samsung's UK retail partner Expansys has cancelled taking pre-orders for the 64GB version of the Galaxy S3 smartphone. The incident has fueled speculation that Samsung has axed the production and shipment of the 64GB model.
Back in March, the South Korean electronics giant unveiled its flagship Galaxy S3 smartphone in three flavors - 16GB, 32GB and 64GB.
Now when the first two models are doing great business in the global market, GSMArena quoted Expansys saying "Samsung has decided not to release the [64GB] unit."
But, even though the European retailer are declining taking pre-orders, Australian phone seller Mobicity is still taking orders for unlocked version of Galaxy S3 64GB.
Anandtech, however, reported earlier that Samsung's 64GB model was never planned to be released in the U.S. Rather, the model was supposed to be launched only internationally.
Samsung already packs in external memory option via microSD slot which can be expanded up to 64GB. Expanding memory through memory card is much of an inexpensive option than buying a 64GB phone and, therefore, experts believe Samsung has finally decided to not launch the expensive version of the phone.
Meanwhile, a poll conducted by Reuters came up with results that show Samsung, with its flagship Galaxy S3, has finally beaten Apple in the smartphone space. As far as the sales figure is concerned, Samsung has already sold 6.5 million units of Galaxy S3 in the second quarter and will be selling as many as 15 million units in the following quarter (July through September) setting a new record for the company, according to a JP Morgan-based analyst.
