Apple's MacBook Air and Intel's ultrabook shipment numbers will see a major boost next year and the number will increase by around 7 million units next year.
"We are looking at about 5 percent of total mobile notebook shipments in 2012. That includes Apple's MacBook Air, which is a big portion of that five percent," Gartner analyst Mikako Kitagawa told CNET in a statement.
According to world renowned market research and analytics firm Gartner, ultrabooks and the MacBook Air are the "ultramobile notebooks," which typically weigh less than 3.5 pounds and measure less than 0.8-inches.
The firm predicts that ultramobile notebook shipments this year will be somewhere near 10.7 million units but it will increase to approximately 17 million by 2013.
A recent report, however, revealed that while Apple's MacBook is making waves in the market, Intel's ultrabook is disappointing in terms of its failure in meeting the company's set market share target.
But IDC, another prominent market research firm, last week claimed that Intel will sell about one million ultrabook units this year, but later withdrew the number citing insufficient data to justify the prediction.
Meanwhile, Fortune reported that Apple Macs outgrow Windows in number of shipment for the consecutive 25th quarter in Q2. According to Fortune's panel of 61 analysts, in this quarter, Mac sales will beat last year's Q2 figure of 3.95 million quite easily.
