Forza Horizon 3, Halo 5 Encryption Protection Systems Can Be Cracked And Prone To Mods, Video Proof

'Encryption' is when you convert electronic data into a different form, these are called ciphertext, which cannot be simply understood by anyone other than authorized parties. The purpose of encryption is to safeguard the secrecy of digital information either kept on computer systems or conveyed via the Internet or other networks.

This is not the case for Forza Horizon 3 and Halo 5: Forge, as their encrypted protection systems have recently been cracked - good news for modders by the way, as reported by DSO Gaming.

Due to integrity and nobility, we will not go into the full details on how it's done; no links on where you can get the codes to encrypt the system either. However, we can show you confirmation that PC gamers can mod the files and run it. Check out the following videos below as tools created by 'Infogram' run the games in mod.

In case you didn't know, Forza Horizon 3 and Halo 5: Forge utilize a new secure encrypted on appx format. The files for the said games are encrypted and then decrypted right away when the user installs these games from the Windows Store via Windows Encrypting File System.

Microsoft applied this method to defend its upcoming games from, what else, piracy. But this new encryption system also affects the modding of games being protected in the first place.

Noted by a range of users, modders are now able to read the 'open processes memory' granting them an entry point into decoding how the data inside the applications are named and arranged - something that could hopefully assist the modders mod the current and upcoming titles.

Even some users blamed that this kind of protection system was responsible for Forza Horizon 3's performance issues but there is no proof to back up the claim.

Anyway, there aren't any mods for Forza Horizon 3 in the first place, so bothering with this loophole isn't much of use, for now.
