Xbox has taken the UK console market by storm after the launch of its little brother, the Xbox One 'S'. The release of Microsoft's new slim 1TB and 500GB console stocks paved way to a staggering 989% rise in original Xbox One sales week-on-week.
The Xbox One kept a 71% share on the hardware market for the week that ends Sep. 24, as reported by GfK data gathered by MCV. That puts it at an increase of 76% year-on-year.
However, the sales for the slim model (Xbox One S) have been very slow after its release. Which has been the trend everytime a new model is launched, the previous one gets a sales boost.
The PlayStation 4 Slim, on the other hand, acquired a share of 19% last week, with its unit sales rolling down 66% year-on-year. Although its sales rolls upward at 22% week-on-week. This puts Microsoft in tune at 361% when comparing the PS4 Slim and Xbox One S head to head.
With that stated, Sony is currently hoping that consumers are holding off, not deciding, until the launch of the PS 4 pro in November, which is set to be priced £349.
The Xbox One S was unveiled on stage at E3 2016, launching the 500GB and 1TB models last week. They are bundled with FIFA 17 which, by the way, officially rolled out yesterday (Sep. 29). This meant that whoever bought the bundle early got the chance to play FIFA 17 days ahead. It also offers a number of goodies like the 4K Blu-ray support.
The 2TB 'pre-order edition' was released on Aug. 2, but the stock is limited and quickly became unavailable and there are no official reports about it being restocked.
This is fantastic news for gamers since a wide range of upcoming titles are promised to be sharpened with the latest available technology. On top of that, mid generations of the 2 console giants are coming along with the slim versions of the original. This means that players now have a range of hardware to play on.
