‘War Of The Planet Of The Apes’ Sequel Promises To Be An Epic Battle Between Apes And Men

It has been three years since fans had another "Planet of the Apes" movie, but when "War of The Planet of the Apes" finally opens in theaters in 2017, it promises to be a real barn burner of a sequel that might be just worth the long wait.

Matt Reeves will once again return to the helm as director and Andy Serkis will reprise his role as the alpha ape, Ceasar. They will also be at the New York Comic-Con to give fans a sneak peek of what the movie brings to the table. 20th Century Fox will be sending Serkis, Reeves, and the producer of the film to the confab to answer some movie related questions and show off the highly anticipated sequel's first official trailer.

New York Comic-Con is still a few days away, but fans can definitely get into the "Planet of the Apes" vibe with the studio's official synopsis for their upcoming film:

"In War for the Planet of the Apes, the third chapter of the critically acclaimed blockbuster franchise, Caesar, and his apes are forced into a deadly conflict with an army of humans led by a ruthless Colonel. After the apes suffer unimaginable losses, Caesar wrestles with his darker instincts and begins his own mythic quest to avenge his kind. As the journey finally brings them face to face, Caesar and the Colonel are pitted against each other in an epic battle that will determine the fate of both their species and the future of the planet."

The colonel will be played by actor Woody Harrelson. Also joining the cast as a fresh face is Steve Zahn, who will be in the ape's faction. From the synopsis above, it looks like the sequel will pick up right after the events of the last movie.

"War of the Planet of the Apes" is slated to release on July 14, 2017.
