Exploding phones are making it to headlines, but the recent news is not about a current flagship phone. After the report of an exploding iPhone 7, another incident has occurred with its predecessor, the iPhone 6 Plus.
Darin Hiavaty, a student at Rowan College in Burlington County has owned his iPhone 6 Plus just for six months and described how it first started. He said that the iPhone was getting hotter, threw it away and kicked it because it was on fire. He clarified that his phone did not have any problems except for the crack that might be the reason why it was burned.
The iPhone 6 Caught on Fire While in Class
"Right as class was starting, my phone started smoking in my pocket. It was a fire." Diavaty told 6ABC.
According to Phone Radar, a girl named Rebecca Bookbinder saw the incident and said that she heard a popping loud sound out of nowhere when she saw the back pocket of Hiavaty on fire.
The cause is unknown, but it is speculated that it was because Hiavaty sat on it, which he admitted. The lithium ion battery in the iPhone 6 Plus is prone to combustion when improperly handled.
Not the First for an iPhone
This is not the first time an iPhone has exploded, Tech Times reported. An Australian cyclist received third-degree burn on his right thigh because he fell on his iPhone 6 in his pocket. Unfortunately, the cyclist has undergone a skin graft after the accident.
In a different event, an iPhone 7 has been reported to have exploded, too. But, this may not be because of the battery, since the handset was turned off for shipping. Therefore, an exploding iPhone 7 is not likely to become a global occurrence, as what happened with Samsung's Note 7.
Apple has not commented on the recent events of exploding iPhones. Even so, users are waiting for them to conduct an investigation regarding the hazards of its flagship phones.
