Canon, on Monday, announced that the company is set to foray into the market of mirror-less camera with EOS M, an interchangeable lens camera with a PowerShot-like form factor. The company is the last major camera maker after Olympus, Panasonic, Sony and Nikon to launch a mirror-less model which had debuted four years back.
The EOS M camera will have measurement of 108.6 x 66.5 x 32.3mm and weight of 402 grams which makes it easily portable. It will sport an 18.1 megapixel APS-C CMOS sensor, Digic 5 image processor, two lenses EF-M 22mm F2 STM prime lens and EF-M 18-55mm F3.5-5.6 IS STM zoom, a 1,040k-dot 3-inch TFT capacitive touchscreen LCD, a flash and a lens adaptor for the EOS M camera, ISO 100 to 12,800 (expandable to 25,600), 31-point autofocus system, 1080p full-HD video recording and 4.3fps burst-mode shooting capacity.
According to a company statement, Canon will manufacture 100,000 of the cameras a month.
While official pricing details of the camera is still unannounced, Allison Johnson of Digital Camera Review has provided an estimated price of $799.99. According to Johnson, the mount adapter will cost $199.99, while the 18-55mm lens and 600EX flash unit will cost $299.99 and $149.99, respectively.
The Canon EOS M is expected to hit stores in Asia early October.
