Spotify Celebrates First Anniversary In US With Lots To Share

Spotify is currently celebrating by sharing statistics and milestones with users via email after the online music streaming service completed a year in the States.

As per the latest reports, U.S. listeners have played over 13 billion tracks and shared about 27,834,742 songs between Facebook, Twitter, and other social networks. The music service's apps platform, which launched in November, on the other hand, has also seen noteworthy user adoption. According to Spotify, nearly 23.7 million hours have been logged "discovering playlists, lyrics, concerts, and reviews." This is equivalent of 2,700 years spent on the music service.

Not surprisingly though, just over half of that socializing went through Facebook. According to the sharing figure, 55.3 percent of those shares went to Facebook, 41.5 percent to other Spotify users, 2.7 percent to Twitter and 0.3 percent to ‘other’ services.

Digital distributor Ditto Music, to accompany the data provided by Spotify, has revealed more information. Based on 2011 payouts to its clients, Ditto notes that Spotify pays $0.0051 per free stream in the US, $0.0078 per unlimited stream (its mid-tier subscription) and $0.0153 per premium stream. This is three times the free payout.

The same infographic points to iTunes’ standard $0.71 payout for a $0.99 download, that is, around 47 premium plays on Spotify.

Spotify is also teasing upgrades planned for the coming year, but, for now, we will have to wait for whatever those might be.
