'Krypton' Pilot Episode Will Reveal Identity Of Superman's Grandfather: The Roots Of The Man Of Steel

Syfy's plan for a prequel to all the "Superman" shows finally comes to light as the production team of "Krypton" speaks about Seg-El, now known as the Man of Steel's grandfather. Alongside the introduction of this new character is the revelation of the playing actor, Hollywood newbie Cameron Cuffe.

The TV show "Krypton" was announced in December 2014, but it had not gotten into production until this year. Syfy cable channel has already ordered for a pilot episode of the new series penned by David S. Goyer ("Man of Steel") and Ian Goldberg ("Once Upon a Time"), also appointing Colm McCarthy as director and Damian Kindler as the series showrunner. The show is also said to film in Serbia.

Cuffe recently played a role in "Florence Foster Jenkins," which is relatively unknown. The team behind the "Superman" prequel however found the actor fit for the role after satisfying their qualifications being athletic, quietly confident, and in his 20s, according to Screen Rant. Reports about the actor's lead role also brought up details about the character of Seg-El and where the history of Superman began.

Seg-El And Other "Krypton" Cast Details

Variety gave a few details about the role that Cuffe will play, saying, "Seg-El is the scion of the once prosperous El family and is blessed with an intuitive brilliance for all things technical. He is now living in Krypton's lowest caste after his family was stripped of its rank."

Furthermore, actress Georgina Campbell is signed to play Lyta Zod, the ancestor of the villain General Zod. According to Deadline, the first line of villain through Lyta Zod "is a member of Krypton's military caste and the daughter of a general, Alura Zod. Lyta Zod serves as a cadet -- and has also been having a clandestine, forbidden romance with Seg-El."

Other characters to join Seg-El and Lyta Zod are Val-El (the genius grandfather of Sef-El), Ter-El (Seg's great-grandfather), Dev-Em (one of the Phantom Zone criminals), and Alura Zod (whom fans are guessing to be Supergirl's mother).

Stars to play the said roles are yet to be discussed.

Sypnosis of "Krypton" -- How Superman's Grandpa Will Surprise You

Years before Superman's era, the House of El was rejected and mocked by the society. Seg-El then made an effort to bring new hope and equality among Kryptons, changing a then chaotic planet into one that is worthy of the greatest superhero known to the universe, Superman.

"It takes place 200 years before Man of Steel," Goyer told in a press outing in October. More of the show's details remain to be announced. The release date of "Krypton" is also yet unknown.
