The '80s favorite ABC show "Dynasty," which was notorious for cliffhangers and for catfights, is bound to make a comeback on television. The team behind "Gossip Girl" and "Revenge" would breathe new life into the show that follows the life of Denver's two feuding families -- the Colbys and the Carringtons. Aside from the announcement of a possible "Dynasty" reboot, there has been no announcement on the cast for the new series.
The "Dynasty" Revival
Reboot series are all the rage with "Gilmore Girls" getting another shot through Netflix Originals and now, TV creators go back to the 1980s to show something new on primetime. Originally airing on ABC from 1891-99, the classic show will be recreated by the CW. The Colbys and Carringtons would make their comeback and resume their feud over their wealth and their children.
The CW's version would tell the story from the point of view of oil mogul Blake Carrington's daughter Fallon and the soon-to-be Hispanic member of the billionaire family, Cristal. In the original version, Cristal was actually Blake's former secretary turned wife Krystle.
"Dynasty" Reboot Series Production
Stephanie Savage and Josh Schwartz, the writing duo behind "Gossip Girl," would be executive producers of the series under Fake Empire alongside Sallie Patrick, "Revenge" writer-producer, and original "Dynasty" creators Esther Shapiro and Richard Shapiro.
Unless The CW decides to ax this project, this is bound to be one of its biggest developments. The network has been focusing on the superhero genre for some time but it plans to bring back soap operas that used to be quite a hit to viewers. As of now, no report has been made as to the cast of the reboot or if any of the original actors would be in it.
With the writing team behind the new series, the reboot would have quite a punch with "Revenge" and "Gossip Girl" elements in the mix. However, being an '80s classic film, the series deserves a good reboot if the deal to deliver a modern revival of "Dynasty" makes it to primetime.
