A waiting period of over a year will end very soon as Research In Motion (RIM) is releasing its much-talked about 4G LTE-enabled BlackBerry PlayBook tablet in another week.
A document leaked from Bell Canada confirms that BlackBerry PlayBook with 4G LTE support is coming on Bell and probably other Canadian carriers on Tuesday, July 31 .
RIM, till date, has not found any great success with its first slate, BlackBerry PlayBook. But it seems that the company wants to forget the torrid past and give a fresh start in the tablet market with a new 4G version.
The 4G LTE PlayBook was first announced during the Mobile World Congress in 2011. RIM that year announced that the company will be releasing two BlackBerry 4G PlayBook tablets by the middle of 2011. According to the company, the new tablets will feature support for LTE and HSPA+ high speed wide area wireless networks. But, no further official details about release date and pricing were released from the company’s end. Meanwhile, we have received a host of leaked images assuring the existence of the 4G tablet but the company still remained tight-lipped about the slate’s possible release and features.
According to Bell Canada’s latest leaked report, which came to MobileSyrup, RIM’s 4G PlayBook will measure 130 x 193 x 9.7mm and weigh 425 grams. The tablet will have a 7-inch display with resolution of 1024 x 600, and will have 1.5GHz dual-core processor, 1GB RAM, 4800 mAh battery and 32GB storage capacity. As its name suggests, it will support 4G LTE (and HSPA+). The 4G LTE Playbook will run OS 2.0, sport a 5 megapixel rear camera with 1080p HD video capability and 3MP front-facing camera.
The leaked slip indicates that the latest PlayBook will be available at a price of $550 Canadian ($540 US) without a contract.
