"Thor: Ragnarok" is already in its production stage and director Taika Waititi is trying to build the hype over the upcoming installment by regularly sending photos from the set on social media. Now his latest teaser on Instagram hints at Korg's appearance in the much anticipated film.
The filmmaker posted a photo that featured a keyboard material with an imprinted Korg on it. The photo is especially different from his prior posts, where he usually updated fans about the actors and characters from the movie that is currently filming. The photo was speculated to be about the debut of the Marvel character Korg in "Thor: Ragnarok." This speculation follows reports about the movie plot suggesting a different twist from the original story based on the comic book.
Furthermore, Waititi captioned his post with "Watch this space #Ragnarok," leaving fans more convinced of Korg's appearance in the "Thor" sequel.
Korg In "Thor: Ragnarok"
Korg is a Marvel character who first appeared in the 2006 comic book "The Incredible Hulk #93," where he apparently became an ally of Hulk. No further details on how the character will be introduced in the "Thor" movie but it goes in line with the unconfirmed report about a "Thor: Ragnarok" and "Planet Hulk" mash-up. The said report reveals the collaboration of characters from the "Ragnarok" and "Planet Hulk" comic books.
Most fans are now speculating that Korg already appeared in the second installment of the "Thor" movie franchise, saying the stone creature that the mighty Thor destroyed at the beginning of the film was actually Korg. This theory, however, was never confirmed.
Marvel Comics described Korg as a member of the Kronans, a clan with unique body structure made from silicon-based element, which gives them their rock-like physique. These unique characteristics of the Kronans give them their extreme strength and long lifespan.
Meanwhile, the "Planet Hulk" comics introduced Korg as a slave of the Red King who forced him to participate in gladiator battles. He was then set by the king to fight his brother Margus whom he should kill against his will.
While the sequel's synopsis remains hidden from the fans, rumors have been telling that Thor will be banished by Loki from Asgard, who took over the throne as he disguised to be King Odin in "Thor: The Dark World." A new villain Hela (played by Cate Blanchett) is speculated to destroy Thor's hammer Mjolnir. This will then lead Thor to take a journey, which is said to end in a gladiator planet where he has to face Hulk (played by Mark Ruffalo) who is then the current champion. It should be noted that none of these theories is yet confirmed by Marvel to happen.
No reports are yet made on who will take the role of Korg in "Thor: Ragnarok." The movie is already packed with a bundle of A-stars and the supporting cast include Anthony Hopkins (Odin), Tessa Thompson (Valkyrie), Idris Elba (Heimdall), Karl Urban (Skurge), and Jeff Goldblum (The Grandmaster).
