‘Titanfall 2’ Update: Respawn To Release First Free Map Remastered Angel City In December

Respawn Entertainment, the studio behind “Titanfall,” has learned its lesson the hard way when it released expensive maps that split its fanbase. To bring back more of its lapsed fans, some of whom have returned when the season pass content was made free, Angel City would be back in “TItanfall 2” with fully remastered assets to boot.

Angel City, the first post-release map, will return in December with a revamped pilot and titan mechanics exclusive to “Titanfall 2.” But “Titanfall 2” would have an earlier release on PC, Playstation 4 and Xbox One on Oct. 28, according to Hardcoregamer.

Angel City is one of the two maps Respawn made available in “Titanfall’s” multiplayer beta. The city features an urban apartment complex with tall housing units on a grid of streets sufficiently wide to hold titan-on-titan combats. Although there are cherry trees visible from the rooftops of buildings, it hardly provides cover, although it offers ample vertical structures for wall-running.

More Downloadable Cosmetic Available, But It Is Not Free

Respawn teased gamers about the fan-favorite map as early as end of August. Along with the release of the fully remastered map, the studio would offer more cosmetic items as downloadable content and made available for purchase, Respawn producer Drew McCoy said.

Polygon pointed out that in June, the studio said all post-release maps for “Titanfall 2” would be free as well as future modes or gameplay implements. However, the cosmetics appear to be excluded from the promise. McCoy explained that the premium DLC will “in no way impact the gameplay.”

Play 3 Days Ahead Of "Titanfall 2" Official Release

In late August, when Respawn announced the return of Angel City, it said players who pre-order “Titanfall 2” would be able to play the map three days before its official arrival for the public.

The studio’s announcement then sought to assuage the concerns of “Titanfall 2” players based on recent Multiplayer Tech Test experience when those who tried the pre-alpha demo – which offered three maps – complained that the map designs removed the verticality which was a key to the original “Titanfall” game.
