Facebook messages can now be encrypted from one end to another. Users no longer have to worry of unauthorized access to their messages. With this latest update and security, private messages on Facebook are now more secure.
Facebook now has a "Secret Conversation" that can be accessed on only one device, and is hidden across all other devices where the account may be logged in. This way, nobody can read the message besides the two individuals on either end of a discussion.
"Your messages are already secure, but Secret Conversations are encrypted from one device to another," says the description when you use the Secret Conversation feature for the first time.
This feature has been rolled out to each of the 900 million Facebook Messenger users in the previous weeks. It was first announced last July and was tested by Facebook beta clients.
Feature Rollout
Facebook's new element brings solid, straightforward encryption to several million users. Both sender and receiver will require the most recent version of the application to activate the encryption. Facebook did not include this component in its upgrade notes, but as long as people updated to the latest version, they will only have to tap "Secret" on the upper right corner of the "New Message" screen.
Engadget points out that manually toggling it is a "legal compromise." We remember WhatsApp being in an uncomfortable spot a while back for the same reason, and we see Facebook designing this feature to avoid legal difficulties in the future.
This encryption is anything but difficult to utilize and it is an engaging stride for any individual who needs to keep authorities or Facebook itself out of their messages. Unfortunately, clients need to do the encryption for every single new message because it does not allow users to encrypt old messages.
