‘200 Pound Beauty’ Remake To Be Shown In Vietnam; Cast To Be Announced Before The Year Ends

Hit South Korean film "200 Pounds Beauty" is reported to have a remake coming out soon. With the recent success of Vietnamese remakes of Korean films "Sweet 20" and "Miss Granny," the expectation that "200 Pounds Beauty" will do really well is quite high.

"Publishing rights of '200 Pounds Beauty' were sold to Vietnam," an unnamed industry insider reported. "The move aims to spur production of its remake version."

Not much details were revealed about the remake of the Korean hit flick "200 Pounds Beauty" but it was also mentioned in the report that the producer will start casting before the year ends.

The movie, which was released in 2006, was a huge commercial success and has become the third-best-selling domestic film of 2009 in South Korea. It has grossed $42 million nationwide from a measly $4 million film budget.

"200 Pounds Beauty" also had several nominations and received several awards in the Chunsa Film Art Awards, Grand Bell Awards, and Korea Movie Star Awards. Kim Ah-joong even won a Best Actress award for playing the role of the lead character in the movie.

The movie follows the story Hanna Kang, an obese phone sex operator and ghost singer for a famous pop star. After a failed suicide attempt, she decided that she wanted to change her physical appearance for the sake of love and living a happy life.

After her very successful surgery, she looked really beautiful and slim. She auditioned to be a ghost singer once again but she was able to secure her own contract and became in competition with the pop star she was singing for before.

The rest of the film shows how Hanna Kang transformed into pop star Jenny. The surgery changed not only her physical appearance but also her personality. A lot of complication happened, but like in any feel good movie, she gets her happily ever after.

"200 Pounds Beauty" is slated to be released in Vietnam by 2017.
