Microsoft Surface Desktop Update: FCC Leaks Confirm Device Is Coming In 2016

There is no doubt that Microsoft's Surface line is one of the tech industry's most successful stories. And this is exactly why the public jumped at reports that stated the company would release a Surface Desktop before the end of the year.

However, there are three months left in 2016 and Microsoft still has not made an official announcement. In lieu of the same, the Federal Communications Commission has just released leak that might confirm initial estimates.

The FCC's Leak

As The Next Web notes, the first reports of the Microsoft Surface Desktop estimated an October release. At the very least, the FCC leaks indicate that something from the Surface line will make an appearance before the end of the year.

The images from the FCC, as the publication indicates, are of a grey keyboard that sports chiclet keys. They also include a barebones 3 button mouse.

According to Ars Technica, the keyboard has Bluetooth connectivity, is simple and very straight to the point. Meanwhile, the mouse reportedly will last as long as 12 months on a pair of AAA batteries. There were also previous reports that indicated an ergonomic keyboard.

Lack Of Confirmation Breeds Rumor

Of course, Microsoft has not confirmed that these accessories are in production, or that that they are for a Surface Desktop. It could be that Microsoft is just releasing a line of new accessories.

However, there is nothing particularly striking about either the keyboard or the mouse, so there is the doubt about why Microsoft would release it, unless it comes with an all new product.

Furthermore, it has already been a year since Microsoft's latest big event, where the company announced its Surface Book, Surface Pro 4, Lumia 950 series and the Microsoft Band 2. It is only a matter of a little more time before it announces a new range or products, includng the Microsoft Surface All-In-One Desktop.
