Overwatch Update: New Heroes and Game Mode Coming Soon

Since its launch in May, Overwatch has been kind of stingy when it comes to introducing new characters and features as it has only added one hero and one map so far. However, the long drought will be over as the popular hero-shooter game will introduce more heroes and game modes.

The announcement was made by Overwatch director Jeff Kaplan in the latest developer update video. He said that the studio is almost finished developing its latest hero and that it will be released sooner instead of later. He also added that another hero is currently being developed by the studio and that it will be available in 2017. Many fans suspect that the soon-to-be-addition will be Sombra.

Aside from the new heroes for Overwatch, the studio also announced that it is developing a new map for the current mode which will also be released within a few weeks and another one which is at the early stages of development. There are four additional maps next in line but it will take a bit more time since these maps are not part of the current Overwatch modes, which means players should expect new game modes as well.

They are also making enhancements to the current Overwatch characters of the game and are currently being tested. For example, they have increased Widowmaker's scope speed allowing it to stop players who are abusing the animation in order to increase their damage. Blizzard is also improving Symmetra's abilities and performance to make her more viable in other situations. Kaplan, however, was quick to add that the enhancements will be implemented in November.

"It could be changes to some of her mechanics and just changing her overall feel through things like numbers and cooldowns — that’s always a possibility. But we’re going to look at some other changes and explore some other things as well that might be a little more dramatic in terms of ‘design vision’ for her," Kaplan said in reference to the changes they want to Symmetra.
