"The Young and the Restless" actor Steve Burton who plays Dylan McAvoy has announced that he would be leaving the CBS soap opera when his contract ends in December. Given the void left by the recent departure of Justin Hartley for NBC's "This Is Us," the soap seems to be in much need of new cast members. There are rumors though that Michael Muhney might make a comeback as a large portion of his fan base still remains.
Another Actor Leaving "The Young and the Restless"
On Friday, Oct. 7, Burton posted a message on Twitter, explaining that his contract with the CBS show "The Young and the Restless" would no longer be renewed when it ends in December. There is no news yet when Y&R would air the last episode that features his character or if they would recast for his role.
Burton joined the soap in 2012 after he won the Daytime Emmy for his role in another daily series, "General Hospital."
New Y&R Characters
Just a month after Hartley confirmed that he will be leaving "The Young and the Restless" to focus on his role in NBC's "This is Us," Burton made an announcement that he would be leaving too. With one actor out of the network and another one due to leave by December, there's a high probability that there would be new faces on Y&R.
There are rumors that Hartley's character, Adam Newman, would return in the person of another actor. Many are expecting that Mal Young, the show's executive producer, would see the need to recast for Adam's role.
Fans are hoping that Muhney would return to the show although there are issues that need to be addressed if the actor makes a comeback. Back in 2014, the show decided to go for Hartley and to end Muhney's contract. It remains to be seen how Y&R showrunners will deal with these developments and how the show would continue now that they have one man down and are expecting another one to leave soon.
