Android Jelly Bean For HP TouchPad – Think Before You Take The Leap

How would you like if one fine day you wake up to find that your tablet, which, in theory, is not meant for Android in any form, is getting the latest Android Jelly Bean update? Sounds unbelievable, right? Well, as per latest information, while others like Nexus 7 and Motorola Xoom await the anticipated upgrade to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, Hewlett-Packard's discontinued, webOS-based TouchPad is getting an unofficial but a real Android 4.1 upgrade.

This is quite a news and may come as a shock to those who are legit Android users, especially the ones who own a Nexus 7 or a Xoom. However, before you feel left out, note that the unofficial port of CyanogenMod 10 (CM10) for the TouchPad, which was put together by XDA Developers member Jcsullins, has "plenty of gaps in functionality," as per SlashGear.

"Hardware video and graphics acceleration aren't functional, and neither is audio. The front-facing camera doesn't work, and neither does the microphone," the tech site detailed after going through Liliputing's review of the Jelly Bean port for the TouchPad. “In short, if you’re hoping for some (silent) web browsing and email from your Jelly Bean slate, the TouchPad port should suit; everyone else might want to wait until that list gets pared back.”

Although that may sound a bit disheartening for those of you who were thinking to port in on your TouchPads, SlashGear assured that the CM10 port will improve with time. However, for now, Jelly Bean for the TouchPad offers almost decent Web browsing and email. One issue a few users of the mod are reporting is problematic battery charging on their TouchPads, but hopefully the problem is not universal and doesn't appear to be the case with all ports.
