Nintendo may have been the first to announce a major breakthrough in the console competition upon announcing the release of their newest product, Nintendo NX, but it seems that its rivals, Sony and Microsoft has already taken the stage with the announcement of their new console upgrades namely the PlayStation Pro and the Xbox Project Scorpio. Nintendo has strictly been tight-lipped with regards to the specs and details of their new product which further alienated its ardent fans, making the situation a bit direr for the Japanese multinational company especially after their last flagship the Wii U, failed to make a significant impact against PS4 and Xbox One.
For a while now, it seems that Nintendo has always been the underdog when compared from Microsoft and Sony in terms of console competition but new leaks have surfaced on the Internet showing us a glimpse of Nintendo NX and with that, we've gathered all the info we know so far and how the current console giants will compete against each other in the future.
The Sony PlayStation 4 Pro
According to TechRadar, during the interview with AMD, the PS4 Pro will feature a custom chip single-processor, AMD Jaguar 8 cores, 8 GB of RAM and 1 TB of storage. This upgrade certainly means that the new console upgrade will be able to handle games and contents in higher-resolution specifically HDR or 4K. Although it's not as groundbreaking as the comparison of PS4 from PS3, it'll surely attract consumers looking for a more advanced gaming experience with their high-end devices.
The Xbox One Project Scorpio
During the recent E3 event, Xbox head Phil Spencer announced the release of two "new consoles," a new Xbox One model capable of running 4K contents and a new iteration of Xbox dubbed Project Scorpio. Microsoft has yet to release compelling details regarding their latest project but recent news have provided us with brief summary of the console's iteration. A statement released by Microsoft indicated that Project Scorpio will provide four times the graphical power of Xbox One and is able to run at 6 TFLOPS. In comparison, the PS4 Pro will theoretically run at 4.2 TFLOPS. This makes Project Scorpio seemingly ahead over the competition in this department. It will also use an unreleased AMD GPU which was also confirmed by AMD via twitter:
The Nintendo NX
Currently, Nintendo has been reticent with the details of their newest flagship but based on the Japanese corporation's approach in the past, we won't be likely expecting any significant difference from its rivals in the hardware department. Recent leaks have shown that the device will come with 1TB of space and will be using a new chip from NVDIA named Tegra X2. Any confirmation regarding this matter has yet to be disclosed but it is said that if Nintendo will get Tegra X2, the new chip will be able to propel NX on par with the PS4 Pro.
Nintendo NX vs Project Scorpio vs PS4 Conclusion
Exact comparison regarding the three consoles can only be measured upon their released and until then, we can only assume about how these multinational corporations will compete against each other in the console market. Bottom line is that, Nintendo NX can be a game-changer for Nintendo if they'll be able to play their card well as it's always been proved in the past that hardware capability is only half of the story.
